On Easter Sunday, the 16th of April 2017, lovers of Sakara music will gather on Freedom Park, Lagos, for the first of its kind musical show, tagged “Sakara Fiesta 2017” to celebrate two of the greatest legends of Sakara music.
Before the advent of hip hop and pop music in Nigeria, there are numerous culturally oriented music that promotes the Nigerian cultural heritages, one of these culturally oriented music is Sakara music.
According to historical facts, Sakara music originated from the northern parts of Nigeria; a kind of music with a blend of Islamic features. It’s major sound instrument is a fiddle known as “goje”, accompanied by other drums, of which the Sakara drum is of paramount importance in the assemblage of drums.
Names like Yusuf Olatunji and Lefty Salami Balogun are renowned for their efforts in propagating the indigenous sounds called Sakara. So join other culture lovers, on Easter Sunday, at 4pm to celebrate these great men.
