Last week, the don of Nollywood Ferdinand Whyte Nkem escapes sudden death.

The Delta state actor was involved in a ghastly accident on his way from a movie location. Nkem sustained injuries on his right hand and left leg.
In January, he was elected as the head of the Delta state branch of the actors’ guild of Nigeria (AGN).
We wish you a quick recovery; those bandages don’t look good on your wrist.

Coconut fruit is common in western Nigeria and it is used for cooking, cosmetics and medicinal purpose. Never did many know the nutritional value of this wonderful fruit found across the country.

Professor Barbara Mendez, a NYC based nutritionist and registered pharmacist in one of her articles, exposed the benefits of coconut water.

“Fresh coconut water has not been pasteurized, therefore it contains enzymes that help to detoxify and repair the body”, she explains.

Most of what you will find in stores is pasteurized or from concentrate. Devotees of coconut water frequently praise its ability to keep the body well-hydrated. “Coconut water is a great source of electrolytes, ‘such as potassium, necessary for proper hydration’, the Prof states.

‘Electrolytes are also necessary for proper muscle contraction and to generate energy in the body’.

“Also coconut water has been used in tropical climates for ages to re-hydrate the body,” she explains.

Some clients prefer the naturally occurring coconut water to sports drinks, as it doesn’t have the added sugar and artificial flavouring and colours that the other sports drinks have.”

If you are a close observer, you might have noticed stolen contents or should I say stolen lyrics from other artistes in a song or usage of another person’s creative ingenuity by Nigerian entertainment practitioners, here are top 6 Nigerian entertainment acts with traces of copy-copy in their materials.

Twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye of P-sqaure are one of the biggest artistes out of Africa. They are also one of the most guilty when it comes to copyright issue.

The duo brazenly lifts lyrics and rhythms from other songs; especially international ones, anyone familiar with foreign songs would notice this. P-square is known to have sampled existing music for their songs like Danger, Get Squared, Game Over, among others. It should be recalled that a renowned Nollywood actress, Steph-nora Okereke, once accused the twin brothers of stealing her song Jeje which she had earlier sent to their brother, Jude, to get his opinion.

This Bariga boy is distinctively talented and creative; everybody knows that, but Baddo as he is fondly called by his fans is not left out in this copyright infringement palava.

His 2013 hit song Yemi my Lover was borrowed from a popular old movie of that title, and of course, that actually made the record more successful as it invoked nostalgia feelings in people who are familiar with the  movie.

Even Sakiti Bobo is from a old song by children to their fat peers, I remember that song clearly, only that some line were omitted and changed to suit the moment.

It is recalled that D’banj’s producer, Deevee, recently called out the rapper for stealing Dapo Banjo’s song to make his own ‘Don’t Stop’ track which is contained in his Eyan Mayweather’s album.

Clarence Peters

Son of Afro-Juju Legend, Video director, Clarence Peter have been given kudos for the quality of music videos over the years. However, the cinematographer is alleged to have stolen concepts from many foreign songs for the videos he directs. He reportedly copied the idea of South African rapper Tumi Molekane’s ‘Asinamali’ for Tiwa Savage’s ‘Eminado’.

The above allegation is just one of the many allegations against Peters who ‘shot it’, though he has never addressed the issue.

Moe Musa

London-based Mr. Moe Musa is another video director walking the thin line of copyright infringement. He is alleged to have stolen the concept for Davido’s ‘Skelewu’ music video from LMFAO’s ‘Part Anthem’ as both music videos have similar scenes and sequence.

Half-Sierra Leonean, half Nigerian Mavin singer, Dija, is also culpable when it comes to copyright infringement. In her latest song, ‘Take Kiss’, She sampled another Nigerian singer, Jodie’s ‘Kuchi Kuchi’ melody.

She also sampled Shaggy’s ‘It wasn’t me’ on one of the verses of her song as well.

Ketchup’s career is just warming up, he needs to be really careful if he wants to have a long stay in the music industry. In a latest song ’Pam Pam’, Ketchup also did as Dija did, he lifted the lyrics from ‘It wasn’t me’, e.t.c.

The copyright infringement is so blatant as ketchup sang, ‘Shoddy came in and she caught me re-handed sleeping with the gal next door…’ as sang by Shaggy in the original song.

These are not the only culprits in the copyright mess, drop some comment in the space provided below if you know of any other copycat in the industry.

Do have a happy Good Friday!
